ABSTRACT

The importance of technology transfer (including biotechnology) for food, agriculture, human health, environmental protection, among others, has been outlined by diverse studies and emphasized by entities such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the United Nations Environment Programme (Krattiger, A., 2000) At the same time, the access and acquisition of these technologies is especially complex due to their proprietary character, basically because of the existence of intellectual property rights (IPRs) such as patents and plant breeder’s rights.
