ABSTRACT

Western societies have become increasingly chemically dependent since the Second World War. As a result, our planet is now heavily polluted with organo-chlorine residues throughout the food web; even arctic ice and polar bears show organo-chlorine contamination. Where organo-chlorine termiticides have been prohibited, non-chemical termite management alternatives have had to be rapidly adopted. This chapter describes some of these integrated pest management practices for new building construction, with attention to termites.
