ABSTRACT
Many ecological impacts originate from the management of individual household water/wastewater cycles. A genuine ecologically sustainable settlement would have no imports of energy or resources from ‘outside’ the boundaries or range of that settlement, and no environmental effects downstream from the site. This chapter explores the potentials of a closed system approach to the design of a single household with regard to water usage.
