LEARNING FROM OTHER CULTURES: HEALTH AS THE FIT BETWEEN THE PERSON AND THEIR ENVIRONMENT

This chapter draws on the insights of non-western health cultures that reinforce the case for a model of health – and health care – which moves us beyond the limitations of the more static and segregated approach common in the west. There is a sense of health as interaction with the total environment in many non-western health cultures which can cast light on the model of health being developed.
