ABSTRACT

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed

citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing

that ever has.

The Great Bear Rainforest encompasses 15 million acres, stretching between Bute Inlet (some 200 kilometres north of Vancouver, where Nancy lives) to below the Alaskan border on Canada’s west coast. A temperate rainforest, it accounts for approximately 25 per cent of the coastal rainforest in the Province of British Columbia. While some areas have been heavily logged for many years, the Forest includes as many as 100 pristine valleys that have never been logged. It has a high biodiversity value and is treasured for the white bears that give the Rainforest its name.
