ABSTRACT

You dread participatory workshops. The last thing you want is to interact (the word they use) with boisterous people who talk too much and too loud, who slap backs and may even (in some cultures) hug you. You do not want to discuss in groups or play silly games. You do not want to be facilitated to participate. You do not want to speak and face ridicule or smiles of condescension. And the ultimate nightmare: you do not want to have to role play doing something well, followed by public critique. And the forced hearty happiness, and all those interactions will be utterly exhausting. You would rather crawl into a hole. Well, take heart. Remember that not to participate is a basic human right.
