Audits can be carried out by a person or department of the forest organization dedicated solely to this function; or audits can be undertaken by each department checking on another. For example, inventory staff might check the operations of harvesting teams, or roading managers check the silvicultural teams. The second approach has overall training benefits, and assists each section in understanding what the other sections are doing, but it needs careful management. It may be more efficient for large organizations to have dedicated auditing staff.
