ABSTRACT
Forest certification is applied at the operational forest management level. It is carried out for a particular forest management unit (FMU), which is defined as an area of forest under a single or common system of forest management. This might be a forest concession, a privately held area of forest land or a series of small areas of forest land owned by different people, but managed under a common system.
