ABSTRACT
Acivil corporation is one that takes full advantage of opportunitiesfor learning and action in building social and environmental objectives into its core business model by effectively developing its internal values and competencies. This must be the basis for our expectations and judgements of business in addressing the aspirations and challenges underlying sustainable development. But the question remains both how to build and judge corporate behaviour against such a benchmark.
