ABSTRACT
The main objective of this classification was to unify the basis for soil survey and soil interpretation in the country. The new classification also hopes to integrate soil information of the country with the European Union format. A special effort was undertaken to harmonize the Romanian classification with the World Reference Base for Soil Resources (WRB) which is used as a basic system for soil information storage in Europe. The classification is limited to Romania (Table 17.1). The soils of urban and industrial areas with minor development of profile constitute a special taxonomic group Entianthroposols, and there are also corresponding taxa at the subtype level for more developed soils. Bare rock is not included in the classification. Subaquatic soils, both mineral and organic ones, are included in a special soil type Limnosols. Soils deeply transformed by agricultural practices are included in the class Anthrisols, particularly in the type Anthroposols. The scope of soil classification of Romania
