ABSTRACT

The new Chinese soil classification (CRG-CST, 2001) was developed to replace an older genetic classification of soils of the People’s Republic of China. It is supposed to be used for soil surveys at all scales and for scientific soil research and interpretation. The main objectives of the classification were to update it in accordance with recent pedogenetic findings and harmonize it with the main world soil classification systems. The geographical coverage of the classification is limited to China (Table 23.1). The soils of urban and industrial areas, as well as underwater soils and bare rocks, are not included in this classification. The scope of the Chinese soil classification
