ABSTRACT

The classification of paleosols is a particular task for paleopedological, paleogeographical and archaeological studies. Though it is limited to a relatively narrow part of a scientific community, and never used for soil survey and inventory, we include a short list of existing paleosols classifications which are actually in use. All the paleosol classifications are based on the existing classifications, such as the US Soil Taxonomy (Soil Survey Staff, 1999) and the World Reference Base for Soil Resources (WRB) (IUSS Working Group WRB, 2006), but are significantly modified for the reasons mentioned below.
