ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that current standards, determined using a bottom—up approach, are in general not in line with end users’ needs. Together with a far from optimal communication process between the stakeholders involved in the life cycle of an indoor environment, it is not strange that health and comfort problems occur. A new approach, called the top—down approach, is therefore presented as analogous to the system engineering methodology used in other disciplines, taking account of end users’ needs throughout the life cycle of an indoor environment.
