ABSTRACT

The top—down approach presented in Chapter 8 only works well if the interactions taking place at several levels and places are well understood. Therefore, in this chapter the interactions occurring in, with and between the indoor environment and human beings are described. It becomes clear that no single parameter of the indoor environment can be evaluated on its own. The different environmental parameters interact and influence the perceptions and behaviour of people. Standards and guidelines for the indoor environment should take account of this.
