ABSTRACT

The new economic model based on biological products is no longer a topic pursued by ideologists striving for a green economy. It is, on the contrary, receiving increasing attention at different levels of society, including consumers, politicians, industry, scientists and media. The use of plant (derived) compounds to substitute fossil oil and chemical synthesis-derived products creates new opportunities to improve the energy and CO2 balance of industrial production chains, and to make them more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
