ABSTRACT

In an energy study published in 1980 by Thomas B. Johansson and Peter Steen entitled, ‘Energi – Till vad och hur mycket?’ (‘Energy – How Will it be Used and How Much?’ Swedish only), the following conclusion is drawn:

‘We have shown that, despite a 50 per cent greater consumption of goods and services just after the turn of the century, it is possible to reduce energy consumption from the current 400TWh/year to between 200 and 250TWh/year. The reduction could be achieved by a much more efficient use of energy than is currently the case through

using existing economical technology and technology under development.’
