ABSTRACT

As has been suggested in earlier chapters, the sphere of the economic is really a part of the sphere of the social. Nevertheless, in most discussions they are treated separately. The GRI Guidelines, which contains economic indicators, is no exception. The economic indicators within the GRI cover financial performance (including financial relationships with stakeholders), the scale of market presence, and impact on the wider economy. Yet a full economic analysis would provide a different and much more detailed picture. This chapter and the next will explore what a more detailed economic analysis of a company can look like. This chapter describes techniques to analyse overall economic impact; the next chapter focuses on the financial impact on stakeholders.
