ABSTRACT

Figure 9.1 shows a 5.5kW Extraflame Baby Fiamma wood pellet stove, installed in a large house near Fort William, Scotland, which provides a convenient heat source to augment the existing central heating system. The householders wanted to install an automated system with a relatively low running cost and low maintenance requirements. They also wanted an aesthetically pleasing stove with a real flame. Wood pellet fuel is purchased locally in bags that weigh 10kg (22 pounds) and cost £1.80. This corresponds to heat at 3.75 pence per kWh.
