Mines and Quarries
There are opportunities to create storage or other useful space in excavated caverns.
Surface works Structures erected on the surface above mines include winding towers (headframes and hoists), ventilation
equipment (extractor fan outlets) and water pumping stations. These are components of industrial scenery or, in cases such as Cornish steam pump ‘engine houses’, industrial archaeology. More extensive land surface areas may be required for railway sidings, cleaning and grading plants, or settling or leaching ponds for processing ores or wastes.
