Sea in New Zealand
Strategic environmental assessment (SEA) is not a term in common use within
New Zealand’s policy and planning communities. Given the lack of any specific
legislative requirement for SEA, the term is likely to be unfamiliar to many
practitioners. While New Zealand has more than 30 years experience with
environmental assessment (EA), this process is only gradually gaining a
foothold at policy level. For the most part, the analysis of policies and plans as
envisaged by SEA internationally is not common practice.
