ABSTRACT

The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) sets a global standard for transparency in the management of oil, gas, and mining revenues. Launched in 2002 and now endorsed by many international bodies and institutions, including the United Nations General Assembly, the World Bank, and the Group of Twenty, 1 the EITI is designed to strengthen governance by improving transparency and accountability in the extractive sector through the full publication of company payments and government revenues from oil, gas, and mining.
