ABSTRACT
This chapter takes a step back and above by drawing on the richness of preceding contributions to consolidate what we can learn about capacity and its development. It first summarizes essential insights into the nature of capacity and its deliberate enhancement. It then distils an indicative practitioners’ profile, integrating core elements of the wide variety of contributions to this volume. The explanation moves on to discuss the evolution of this area of work as a professional domain and identifies key challenges for the next stages of progress. Several ways forward are identified and explored. Two are elaborated in subsequent chapters on market dynamics and on perspectives for professionalization.
