ABSTRACT

While in developing countries local breeds are part of everyday life, only a few dedicated people in the industrialized world keep rare breeds. Others fight against plans to build factory farms in their region because of the expected pollution of air, water and soil, and to prevent the destruction of ecosystems. And many more will buy milk, eggs, fish and meat only from organic systems, if at all. They worry about uniformly bred animals kept in unfair conditions on factory farms. All of them want, among other things, to preserve and enjoy biodiversity.
