ABSTRACT

The first response to the title of this book could well be: ‘What meat crisis?’ Indeed supermarket shelves and butchers’ shops are well stocked with every kind of meat. Special offers on packs of chicken legs abound. At one point a 1 kilo pack of chicken portions cost the same in a leading UK supermarket as a pack of four cans of beer. In fact, in the developed world, meat has probably never been so cheap.
