Cheap Food, Community and Culture
The relationship between industrialized agriculture and community well-being has been extensively studied. Social scientists have been examining this relationship since the 1930s (see, for example, Tetreau, 1938; Luloff and Krannich, 2002). This expansive body of research has been meticulously reviewed elsewhere (see Lobao and Stofferahn, 2008; see also Swanson, 1988; Lobao, 1990). I will therefore be brief as I summarize this body of literature that spans multiple generations.
