The Arabic word “Islam” simply means submission to the will of God. It also conveys the means to achieve peace - peace with God, peace with oneself, and peace with the creations of God through wholly giving oneself to God and accepting His guidance. Islam is a qualitative term the quality of accepting God’s supreme authority above one’s own. The Qur’an is the prime source of every Muslim’s faith and practice. It provides guidelines for a just society, proper human conduct and an equitable economic system. The annual fast takes place during the holy month of Ramadan, which is a time of sacrifice, self-examination, and self-improvement. Ramadan is a month of spiritual consciousness and an elevated sense of social responsibility. Muslims accept life as a trust from God and as trustees are required to take the very best care of their bodies in terms of both prevention and health care. Eat and drink and be not prodigal.
