ABSTRACT
Hillenbrand had five subordinate ideas in The Crusades: first, an expanded analysis of Muslim reactions to the First Crusade * of the end of the eleventh century; second, the concept of jihad * as a propaganda * tool; third, cultural interchange from the Islamic societies to the Crusaders; fourth, new concepts in fortification introduced by the Crusaders; and finally, misrepresentation of Islamic sources.
