ABSTRACT

Criticism The response to Hamid Dabashi’s Theology of Discontent has been mixed. The most common criticism is that Dabashi exaggerated the impact the eight ideologues* had on the 1978-9 Iranian Revolution.* The sociologist Misagh Parsa,* for example, suggests that “as an analysis of the connection between ideology and revolution, the book is a failure.” He argues that Dabashi does not provide enough proof to back up his argument.1
