ABSTRACT

Since C. S. Lewis published Mere Christianity, the West has undergone a significant cultural shift, even if Lewis's ideas are still used in the field of apologetics and among mainstream Christian Churches. Lewis's concern for both logic and experience in Mere Christianity means that his text continues to be relevant in contemporary debates. Mere Christianity has proven to be one of the most groundbreaking defenses of the Christian faith in the modern world. Lewis's writings and ideas have not been significantly adapted or modernized to suit contemporary audiences. Written just over half a century ago, his work continues to inspire Christians to defend Christianity through honest debate and dialogue in the public forum. Although Mere Christianity is not central to the contemporary scholarly debate in theology or philosophy, scholars such as the American philosopher of religion Alvin Pantinga have followed up the criticisms that Lewis made about naturalism.
