ABSTRACT

The works of Christian theology, such as Mere Christianity, Lewis wrote children's literature, fantasy and science fiction, autobiography, poetry, and literary criticism. Whether in his fiction or prose, Lewis's work was shaped profoundly by his Christian faith. And, in some ways, Mere Christianity provides a simple summary and defense of those beliefs. Amongst his lay readership, Lewis's writings have inspired many to consider arguments for the Christian faith. In the United States he is primarily celebrated for his work as an apologist and for his contribution to the defense of Christianity in the modern world. In Britain the centenary highlighted Lewis's success as a children's author. The influence of Mere Christianity was most significant in evangelical Christian circles, but its impact can also be seen in both the Roman Catholic and Protestant Churches. Despite his popularity among evangelical Christians, Lewis was always an Anglican who stuck to orthodox tradition but never aligned himself with any particular wing of the Church.
