ABSTRACT

From my experience with NGOs, the effective ones have a vision of a desirable future world, a mission to move the world closer to the vision, and strategies that help them accomplish their mission. In this context, NGOs and the constituencies they represent want to have an impact, to make a difference. That impact can come in many ways, ranging from increasing consumer or voter awareness to the changing of public policy. Along this spectrum is the changing of corporate behavior. As corporations are such powerful forces in the world, NGOs see the potential for positive impact and change in the corporate sphere as quite substantial.
