ABSTRACT

The people of Jordan are of several ethnic and national origins and religious persuasions. The majority consists of Arab Muslims, originating in Jordan and the Arab countries around it; the remainder are indigenous Arab Christians, deeply rooted in the country, and non-Arab Muslims, originating in the Caucasus and Kurdistan. Jordanians’ cultural affiliation is Arab Islamic, molded by Arab and Muslim scholars and thinkers over 14 centuries since the emergence of Islam in the early seventh century.
