ABSTRACT
We conducted a study using participant observation to examine the concept of a conservation ethic among the Benuaq Dayak community of East Kalimantan, Indonesia. In this chapter, we describe the institutional arrangements of the Benuaq Dayak and the relationships between the people and the land. An extensive discussion of Benuaq swidden cultivation and related knowledge is included.
