ABSTRACT

Abstract-New highly phenylated bis(phthalic) and bis(naphthalic) anhydrides were synthesized by the Diels-Alder reactions of 4,4'-bis[(2,4,5-triphenylcyclopentadien-l-on-3-yl)]benzophenone with twofold molar amounts of maleic anhydride and 4-(phenylethynyl)naphthalic anhydride, respec tively. The dianhydrides were used to prepare a series of new phenylated polyimides and poly-(naphthalmide)s that were soluble in organic solvents. The thermal, mechanical, electrical and opti cal properties of the polymers were determined.
