Abstract-The purpose of this study was to test the feasibility of predicting the cleanability of plastic flooring materials by contact angle measurements. Advancing contact angle was used to characterize surface properties such as wetting and surface free energy. The relevance of these surface properties to cleanability of flooring materials was evaluated using a cleaning index and soil residue. A total of 10 different commercial flooring materials were soiled and cleaned using pilot scale equipment. The results indicated the potential of advancing contact angle measurements to predict the cleanability of plastic flooring materials.
