ABSTRACT

Since the 1960s, the United States Department of Energy's Savannah River Site (SRS), near Aiken, South Carolina, USA, produced Pu-238 oxides as a power source for thermoelectric batteries. A legacy of this operation is that all the wastes which were generated as a result have been stored as Pu-238 contaminated transuranic waste [ 1]. The TRU waste consists of heterogeneous debris contaminated
