OurcurrentknowledgeabouttheconditionsonMarscomesfromremotesensing androboticLandermissionstoMars.SomeinformationonrockandsoilcompositionalsocomesfromMartianmeteoritesfoundonEarth.Besidesthedesireto unravelthemysteriesofourcosmosandfindanswerstothehistoryofthesolar systemandthedevelopmentoflife,anotherobjectivefortheseroboticmissionsis toidentitypotentialhazardsforcrewandequipmentinfuturemannedmissionsto Marsandtodevelopsuitablemitigationstrategies.Currently(2005),twoMars rovers,SpiritandOpportunity,areexploringtheplanet'ssurfacetogatherdatarelatedtofuturehumanmissionstoMars.
