ABSTRACT

The fi bre forming process from polymer melt or solution consists of deformation and it results in orientation of polymer molecular chains. Structurally the fi bre consists of crystalline regions and amorphous regions with different molecular arrangements. Owing to this, orientation in fi bres can be of different types and it is specifi ed to different regions or components. These different orientations are as follows:

(a) Orientation of the chain molecules,

(b) Average orientation of the chain molecules,

(c) Orientation of the chain molecules in the amorphous phase,

(d) Orientation of the crystallographic axes of the crystallites,

(e) Orientation of the crystallites.
