ABSTRACT

Microscopy is the study of fi ne structure and morphology of objects with the use of a microscope. The successful microscope analysis depends upon the use of specialized sample preparation and observation techniques. There are basically two types of microscopes, i.e. (1) Optical or Light microscopes (LM) and (2) Electron microscopes (EM), depending upon whether light rays of electrons are used. Further, electron microscopes are mainly of two types, i.e. (a) Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and (2) Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Different microscopes available are: (a) Light microscope (LM) or Optical microscope (OM), (b) TEM and (c) SEM. The basic properties of these three different microscopes are given in Table 9.1.
