ABSTRACT

A seminal proposal for using such a system for quantum networking

was that of [2]. Here, a qubit stored in the two lower states of a Λ-system

is transferred to a photon by introducing a carefully shaped control pulse

of light which adiabatically changes the qubit state into a photon in a

surrounding optical cavity. This photon leaks out of the cavity into a

waveguide, and then may enter a second cavity. If the control pulse of light

is time-reversed, a Λ-system in this second cavity may perfectly absorb the

photon, ending up in the state of the first qubit.
