ABSTRACT
A simple notch of the wafer edge just a bit deeper than the final thickness of the device wafer is enough to dramatically improve the quality and yield of the thinned wafer. As shown in Figure 7.3 below, wafer edge bevels taper at a smooth angle.
When such wafer is thinned the tapered edge goes to a point as shown in Figure 7.4.
