ABSTRACT

Figure 7.2 (a) shows the transmission electron microscopy image of a single nanorod with a diameter of about 30 nm. A flattened top of nanorod is observed, which is due to the etching effect during the growth.28 The corresponding selected area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern is shown in the inset of Fig. 7.2 (b). The growth direction of ZnO nanorod can be determined to be [0001]. Figure 7.2 (b) shows the HRTEM image of the ZnO nanorod. The spacing of the two lattice planes were determined to be 0.520 nm and 0.246 nm, respectively, which correspond to the interspacing of (0001) and (0110) planes of wurtzite ZnO, respectively. The HRTEM and SAED results further confirm that each individual ZnO nanorod is of single crystal.
