ABSTRACT

In this book we shall encounter several branches of physics, but

the most important one will be statistical physics. Here I present a

short introduction to statistical physics to provide the reader with

the framework necessary to understand later chapters where it is

used extensively. As in the previous chapter I try to be as concise

as possible and only discuss issues that are relevant for this book.

In other words this introduction is far from complete, but hopefully

helps readers not familiar with statistical physics to get a quick idea

of the basic concepts. If you are familiar with this subject, you might

want to skip this chapter altogether.
