ABSTRACT

Figures 5.2 and 5.3 show the morphologies of the as-spun nanofibers. Some of the fibers are interconnected to each other owing to insufficient evaporation of solvent during the electrospinning process. Most of the fibers were very small in diameter, and the average fiber diameter was around 200 nm. Some coarse fibers were also observed when the applied voltage was low or the polymer concentration was higher than 9 wt%. This was due to either the low electrostatic force or the highly viscous nature of the polymer solution which limited stretching of the polymer jets.
