ABSTRACT

On the one hand, the tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) moiety and its analogues are well known to present very good redox activity leading to electric conductivity. On the other, the lanthanide ions are intensively studied for their peculiar magnetic and luminescent properties. In this chapter, we present new TTF ligands suitable for the coordination of 4f elements. Thus, original coordinating complexes involving redox-active TTF-based ligands and 4f lanthanide ions have been obtained and studied because they may give rise to new types of multifunctional materials — conducting, magnetic, and luminescent. X-ray structures and physical properties of seven coordinating complexes and one salt are presented in these lines.
