ABSTRACT

After several attempts to establish offshore wind farms in various places in Denmark, the Middelgrunden wind farm became the first offshore wind project based on the sale of shares. Before that, an attempt in the Århus Bay had failed, and when we presented a proposal for a project of 20 offshore wind turbines at Middelgrunden in 1996, it seemed an almost unattainable vision. A fortunate combination of political will in the Danish parliament and a strong local engagement in Copenhagen carried the idea through.
