ABSTRACT

It was towards the end of 1976 that I began to take serious interest in wind power. I got my A-level certificate in the same year, and after a summer where I was doing various jobs I spent the autumn doing England on my bicycle. When I returned from my journey, a call up for the military was awaiting me. I was, how-ever, not to be there until May 1977, and consequently I had the rest of the winter and a bit of the spring available for doing sundry jobs at my parents’ farm near Vildbjerg between Herning and Holstebro. While I was away the initial work on the Tvind wind turbine was reported in the newspapers, and in late December 1976 my father and I went to Tvind for the first time, and like everybody else we were fascinated by this group of evident amateurs who, from something that looked like scratch, were building the world’s biggest wind turbine.
