ABSTRACT
It was during the early seventies, that I started thinking about sustainability and started working on wind energy technology as one of the sustainable energy supply options. After almost 40 years of intensive involvement I realise that I am one of the few lucky ones, who experienced the entire development period of modern wind power technology. I feel it as a duty to provide a (personal view) on the developments in those 40 years, if it were only to prevent unnecessary duplications of past developments. Below I will address some developments from my personal point of view; developments in the areas of wind turbine systems and applications in a framework which is determined by advances in science and technology, market development, integration requirements and policy.
