ABSTRACT

As material sizes shrink, novel magnetic phenomena often emerge

that are drastically different from their bulk counterparts. Spin-

polarized scanning tunneling microscopy enables studying of

magnetic phenomena on surfaces with real space imaging and

spectroscopy techniques down to the atomic level. Because of its

ability to directly correlate topographic, electronic, and magnetic

properties, it is a powerful tool to resolve and even manipulate

complex spin structures at the ultimate spatial resolution.
