ABSTRACT
Sustainability is at the core of Fortum’s strategy and we take economic, social, and environmental responsibility. We believe that the growing energy demand will be fulfilled in the future with electricity production. Therefore Fortum focuses on competence in hydropower, nuclear, and CHP production, as well as reduction of environmental impacts. Fortum also develops new sustainable energy systems, forms, and products [2]. Although, we still use fossil fuels in power and heat production, we believe that the world is in transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy originating from solar resources. The future solar economy is based on high-efficiency systems using bioenergy, geothermal energy, hydropower, ocean, wind, and sun as fuels for energy production. As CHP production is highly efficient and when based on bio-or waste fuels also minor in CO2 emissions, it is one of the main focus areas in Fortum [2].
